Homage to Him, the Blessed One, the Exalted One, the Fully Enlightened One!
BUDDHA VANDANĀ - Homage to the Buddha
Iti’pi so bhagavā, arahaṃ, sammā sambuddho,
Vijjā caraṇa sampanno, sugato, lokavidū,
Anuttaro purisa damma sārathī,
Satthā deva manussānaṃ, buddho, bhagavā’ti.
Such indeed is the Blessed One, exalted, Perfectly Enlightened, endowed with knowledge and virtues, Well-gone, Knower of the worlds, a Supreme trainer of persons to be trained, Teacher of gods and men, Enlightened and Blessed.
DHAMMA VANDANĀ - Homage to the Dhamma
Svākkhāto bhagavatā dhammo sandiṭṭhiko akāliko ehi-passiko opanayiko paccattaṃ veditabbo viññūhi’ti.
Well expounded is the Dhamma by the Blessed One,
visible here and now; not delayed in time,
inviting one to come and see; onward leading to Nibbana
to be attained by the wise, each for himself.
SAṄGHA VANDANĀ - Homage to the Saṅgha
Supaṭipanno bhagavato sāvaka saṅgho
Uju paṭipanno bhagavato sāvaka saṅgho
Ñāya paṭipanno bhagavato sāvaka saṅgho
Sāmīci paṭipanno bhagavato sāvaka saṅgho
Yadidaṃ cattāri purisa yugāni aṭṭha purisa puggalā
Esa bhagavato sāvaka saṅgho
Āhuneyyo pāhuneyyo dakkhiṇeyyo añjali karaṇīyo
Anuttaraṃ puññakkhettaṃ lokassā’ti.
Of good conduct is the Order of the Disciples of the Blessed One.
Of upright conduct is the Order of the Disciples of the Blessed One.
Of wise conduct is the Order of the Disciples of the Blessed One.
Of dutiful conduct is the Order of the Disciples of the Blessed One.
That is to say: the Four Pairs of Persons, the Eight Kinds of individuals,
this community (Saṅgha) of the Blessed One's disciples
is worthy of gifts, is worthy of hospitality,
is worthy of offerings, is worthy of reverential salutation,
is an incomparable field of merit for the world.
AṬṬHAVῙSATI PARITTA - Protective Discourse of Twenty-Eight Buddhas
Taṇhaṅkaro mahāvīro - Medhaṅkaro mahāyaso
Saraṇaṅkaro lokahito - Dīpaṅkaro jutindharo
Taṇhaṅkara, the great hero; Medhaṅkara, of great honour, Saraṇaṅkara, abode of love; Dīpaṅkara, the lustrous light.
Koṇḍañño jana pāmokkho - Maṅgalo purisā’sabho
Sumano sumano dhīro - Revato rati vaddhano
Koṇḍañña, the People’s Lord; Maṅgala, the Man Supreme, Sumana, the good-hearted sage; Revata, who enhanced joy.
Sobhito guna sampanno - Anomadassī jan’uttamo
Padumo loka pajjoto - Nārado vara sārathī
Sobhita, with virtue crowned; Anomadassī, chief of men, Paduma, a guiding lamp to all worlds; Nārada, the charioteer unsurpassed.
Padum’uttaro satta sāro - Sumedho agga puggalo
Sujāto sabba loka’ggo - Piyadassī nar’āsabho
Padumuttara, peerless being; Sumedha, the paramount, Sujāta, chief of all the worlds; Piyadassī, mankind’s lord.
Atthadassī kāruṇiko - Dhammadassī tamonudo
Siddhattho asamo loke - Tisso varada saṃvaro
Atthadassī, compassion-grained; Dhammadassī, who dispelled gloom; Siddhattha, matchless in the world; Tissa, restrained giver of the best.
Phusso varada sambuddho - Vipassī ca anūpamo
Sikhī sabba hito satthā – Vessabhū sukha dāyako
Phussa, all-seeing donor of the goal; Vipassī, the unrivalled one, Sikhī, leader of boundless love; Vessabhū, dispenser of bliss.
Kakusandho satthavāho - Koṇāgamano ranañjaho
Kassapo siri sampanno - Gotamo sakya puṅgavo
Kakusandha, caravan-guide of sentient beings; Koṇāgamana, done with strife; Kassapa, of perfect radiance; Gotama, the Sakya’s glory.
Tesaṃ saccane sīlena - khanti metta balena ca
Tepi maṃ/tvaṃ anurakkhantu - ārogyena sukhena cā’ti
By the power of their Truthfulness and Virtues; Patience and Loving-kindness; may it be a shield around me / you, may health and happiness be mine / yours!
Jaya Paritta
Siri-dhiti-mati-tejo-jayasiddhi-mahiddhi -mahāguṇaṃ
aparimita-puññādhikārassa
sabbantarāya-nivāraṇa-samatthassa
bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa
dvattiṁsa-mahāpurisa-lakkhaṇ’ānubhāvena
Through the power of the 32 marks of the Great Man belonging to the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Rightly Self-awakened One, who through his accumulation of merit is endowed with glory, steadfastness of intent, majesty, victorious power, great might, countless great virtues, who settles all dangers & obstacles,
asītyānubyañjan’ānubhāvena
through the power of his 80 minor characteristics,
aṭṭh’uttara-sata-maṅgala lakkhaṇ’ānubhāvena
through the power of his 108 blessings,
chabbaṇṇa-raṁsy’ānubhāvena ketumāl’ānubhāvena
through the power of his sixfold radiance, through the power of the aura surrounding his head,
dasa-pāramit’ānubhāvena dasa-upapāramit’ānubhāvena dasa-paramattha-pāramit’ānubhāvena
through the power of his ten perfections, ten higher perfections, & ten ultimate perfections,
sīla-samādhi-paññ’ānubhāvena
through the power of his virtue, concentration, & discernment,
buddh’ānubhāvena dhamm’ānubhāvena saṅgh’ānubhāvena
through the power of the Buddha, Dhamma, & Saṅgha,
tej’ānubhāvena iddhy’ānubhāvena bal’ānubhāvena
through the power of his majesty, might, & strength,
ñeyya-dhamm’ānubhāvena
through the power of his Dhammas that can be known,
caturāsīti-sahassa-dhammakkhandh’ānubhāvena
through the power of the 84,000 divisions of his Dhamma,
nava-lokuttara-dhamm’ānubhāvena
through the power of his nine transcendent Dhammas,
aṭṭhaṅgika-magg’ānubhāvena
through the power of his eightfold path,
aṭṭha-samāpatty’ānubhāvena
through the power of his eight meditative attainments,
chaḷabhiññ’ānubhāvena catu-sacca-ñāṇ’ānubhāvena
through the power of his six cognitive skills, through the power of his knowledge of the four noble truths,
dasa-bala-ñāṇ’ānubhāvena
through the power of his knowledge of the ten strengths,
sabbaññuta-ñāṇ’ānubhāvena
through the power of his omniscience,
mettā-karuṇā-muditā-upekkh’ānubhāvena
through the power of his goodwill, compassion, empathetic joy, & equanimity,
sabba-paritt’ānubhāvena
through the power of all protective chants,
ratanattaya-saraṇ’ānubhāvena
through the power of refuge in the Triple Gem:
Tuyhaṁ sabba-roga-sok’upaddava-dukkha-domanass-upāyāsā vinassantu
May all your diseases, griefs, misfortunes, pains, distresses, & despairs be destroyed,
sabba-antarāyāpi vinassantu sabba-saṅkappā tuyhaṁ samijjhantu
may all obstructions be destroyed, may all your resolves succeed,
dīghayuko hotu sata-vassa-jīvena samaṅgiko hotu sabbadā.
may you live long, always attaining 100 years.
Ākāsa-pabbata-vana-bhūmi-taṭāka-gaṅgā-mahāsamudda ārakkhakā devatā sadā tumhe, anurakkhantu.
May the protective devas of the sky, the mountains, the forests, the land, the River Ganges, & the great ocean always protect you.
Sabba buddhānubhāvena – sabba dhammānubhāvena – sabba saṅghānubhāvena
by the power of all the Buddha, all the dhammas and all the saṅghas
Buddha ratanaṃ dhamma ratanaṃ saṅgha ratanaṃ tinnaṃ ratanānaṃ ānubhāvena
By the power of the Buddha, dhamma and saṅgha, by the power of the Triple Gem
Caturāsīti sahassa dhammakkhandhānubhāvena
By the power of the eighty four thousandfold teachings
Piṭakattayānubhāvena jinasāvakānubhāvena jinasāsanānubhāvena –
by the power of the three baskets, by the power of Buddha’s disciples, by the power of the Order of the Buddha
sabbe te rogā, sabbe te bhayā, sabbe te antarāyā, sabbe te upaddavā, sabbe te dunnimittā, sabbe te avamaṅgalā vinassantu
May all your illneses; all your fears; all your dangers; all your menaces; all your ill omens; all your inauspicious influences be gone;
āyu vaḍḍhako dhana vaḍḍhako siri vaḍḍḥako yasa vaḍḍhako
bala vaḍḍhako vaṇṇa vaḍḍhako sukha vaḍḍhako hotu sabbadā –
may you live long, may your wealth incrase; may your luck increase; may your gloary increase; may your power increase; may your complexion be bright; may your happiness increase; may your comfort increase!
Dukkha roga bhayā verā - sokā sabbe upaddavā - anekā antarāyāpi vinassantu ca tejasā - jaya siddhi dhanaṃ lābhaṃ - sotthi bhāgyaṃ sukhaṃ balaṃ - siri āyu ca vaṇṇo ca - bhogaṃ vuddhi ca yasavā Satavassā ca āyū ca - jīva siddhi bhavantu te.
May your sorrow, your illnesses, your hatred, your despair, your menaces be gone! May your victory, wealth, profit, happiness, power, glory, complexion, possessions thrive! May you be glorious! May your life increase to a hundred years!
Etena sacca vajjena - hotu me/te jaya maṅgalaṃ x3
By the power of this truth, may joyous victory be mine/yours!
Transferring merit to Devas
Ākāsaṭṭhā ca bhummaṭṭhā
Devā nāgā mahiddhikā
Puññaṃ taṃ anumoditvā
Ciraṃ rakkhantu lokasasanaṃ
May all beings inhabiting space and earth, Devas and Nāgās of mighty power, share this merit and may they long protect the dispensation!
Ākāsaṭṭhā ca bhummaṭṭhā
Devā nāgā mahiddhikā
Puññaṃ taṃ anumoditvā
Ciraṃ rakkhantu dhamma desanaṃ
May all beings inhabiting space and earth, Devas and Nagas of mighty power, share this merit and may they long protect the dispensation!
